Montessori Education Week

- What
- Montessori Education Week
- When
- 2/24/2019
As the staff and school prepare for the week long observance and celebration of Montessori Education Week, during the week of February 24th, we anticipate that both you and your child’s understanding of the life and advances of Maria Montessori will be enhanced in the process.
Numerous activities are planned to commemorate the event. First off, as has become a tradition at BCMCS, parents will be invited to join their child’s classrooms in a ‘participatory’ manner, being welcomed as classroom members to come and take a firsthand look at the child-centered, individualized approach developed almost 100 years ago. In addition, we plan to commemorate this week with various activities formed to better understand Montessori methodology, where books will read, stories will be told [children love to hear the story of her childhood and how she overcame so many obstacles to fulfill her own dreams], art projects will be made, and bulletin boards will be decorated, all meant to explain the reasons and rationales of multi-age groupings, rich and extensive curriculum implementation with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment, just to mention of few.
The Montessori system may be one of the best-kept secrets in education, with Montessori Education Week being the annual event designed to promote an increased awareness of its unique methodology. By remembering and rededicating ourselves with the excitement and enthusiasm of Montessori's vision, we hope that our students will be able to see her as a sort of hero, building a new kind of school in which children can live and work in peace and kindness. It is my hope that we will all go beyond just knowing the story of Maria Montessori to exploring the larger implications of her ideas of peace and international understanding.
